PROJECT DEMIO
« on: July 17, 2017, 10:47:19 PM »
I had set out to just do a spray job on my 05 demio and it just somehow ended up becoming a project as almost err ting
is being redone. its gonna be a long project as I am doing everything myself and i do have a 9-5.
Now am doing this cuz i have never seen anyone done a project on a demio before and I just wanted to document the work i have been doing.
So far i have retrofitted the bumper brackets as the bumpers were misaligned and the lil holes that slide into the bracket were kaput.
I did some fiberglass work on the bumper to patch a hole in it, and ordered a set of fog lights from japan as one was missing from the pair I had on the car, this of course was after I already fabricated pieces to replace the fog lights.
i have a couple pics so i will upload the progress so far and i will add more info as i go along.

but in terms of what i have planned i will do a list below and edit later on if needs be;
-spray over in original mazda pearl white (paint code is 25d) already bought the color
-spray the bumper grill using bumper black as am not too fond of neither matte or gloss black...i think the bumper black is somewhere in between
-install halo rings in both the fogs and the headlamps( the after market rings were a tad be too bright so i had to order led dimmers to tone them
down cuz i have no intention of ricing out my car
-respray the door panels and dashboard trim
-i already changed the horns to air horns(just love how dem sound )
-radio damaged so i order a new one and install it in short order
-upgrade my sound system as well( new speakers and speaker box...think i might even have to ditch the back seat. i already ordered 2
sundown audio 15's,E15 v3 is the model number, and two more 8'' eminence to add to the 3 6.5 inches already in the car
-already built the box for the 15's(as close to specs as i could given the limited space that i am working with)
-the rims were repaired and resprayed, but i think ama do them over as am not yet sold on the gunmetal rims with white car combo.

there is more but i caa memba right now, plus i dont want to make thus post any longer than it already is, so i will just update this as i go along

not sure if it visible but these are the brackets i fabricated to hold the bumpers on since i wasnt able to use the original bumper brackets anymore

i had to bore holes through the bumper then fasten the metal bracket, using small nut and bolts, to the bumper
then i applied some epoxy to both sides to add some rigidity...then sanded and putty on the outside of the bumper to smooth it out
i used flush mount bolts and drilled a wide enough hole so the bolt would sit flush in the bumper with enough room for movement so and not to damage the putty over time.

the holes at the top of pic 2 and 3 is where the screw will go to attach the bumper to the car
i fitted the bumper onto the car and did daily driving around town for about two months before i started the spraying and it worked like a charm

those are just so you can have an idea of the condition of the car before/what it looked like before...bare with me as i had no intention of posting this.

these are a few shots when playing with the angel eye and/or demon eye scenario,
but i have still have not made up my mind as to the direction am gonna go with this as yet, though am leaning more towards the blue halo and red
demon eye combo

i am also wondering if i should use halo rings on the bright as well, or if i should just keep to the projector housing only...

Nice job.

I agree that the design to hold on the bumpers is really poor. My wife's demio does suffer that ailment as I believe so does the Premacy and Biante. Probably others too that use the same bumper side brackets

Thanks scubaman.....

And on that note, did some taping and priming recently

Initially i was using the hlvp gun from TCP global...which is not a horrible gun, but it just wasnt working out for me, mainly because i have a realy small compressor(1.1hp bout 3 or 4 cfm) and anybody who does sparaying knows a proper spray requires way more cfm than 4.

So i opted for the lvlp from sprayit...suffice to say, it does a realy good job spraying primer so i think i should have way better results with this gun. Both guns were bought on amazon btw.

this is not an update as the box was already built but....

call me cheap, but the prices for 15" boxes ranged from anywhere between 14k and 30k(prefab and built)

so i decided to get creative and use theses coin boxes i get from work

lots of nails and wood glue later...

and the semi final product...even sturdier than i expected and hits hard with the 12 kicker seen in the below pic

of course i need to wrap the box, but am still on the fence cuz am thinking to apply some body filler and paint the surface or use fiberglass instead of just wrapping it

but we will see how that goes later.
