How can you tell which B or D engine you have?
« on: February 28, 2008, 03:42:24 PM »
How can you tell which b16a or d15b you have? I know that there are various versions like b16a1, b16a2, b18c, b18c1 etc

I'm asking because my friend got a b18c DA tegs to replace his b16a DA tegs and now he is saying that the b16a was faster. The B16a was stock with a loud muffler while the b18c is stock and piped out with a less noisy muffler.

I think the b18c is faster based on how it feels when I'm driving in it but he swears that his b16a was faster than it. He said its his car and he knows that the b16a was faster and sound more powerful. I think he is mixing up noise with speed.  Either that or he got a lame b18c with his new tegs like a b18c1 or c2.

Can I look on the engine number and tell which b18c it is?

Is it really possible for the a stock b16a to be noticibly faster than a piped out b18c?

D series is SOHC....B series is DOHC....DOHC cars due to d xtra cam would appear to be wider due to the xtra cam...as to the b16a b18c argument, to my very MINUTE knowledge oh honda, the b18c is supposed to be making more than the b16a...so unless the b16a was modified, or as u said, they b18c lame/dun out b18 dat could possibly be y

Thanks for replying but u misunderstood the question. I talking about telling the differnce between b18c / b18c1/ b18c2 when u dont know which car they are from.

As for the other part of the question, b18c makes between from 167 to around 200 hp. I think c1 and c2 are the weakest making around 167 and 170 hp while b18c without the number makes around 185-190(dont remeber out of my head). b16a normally make around 160-165 hp. Thats why i'm wondering if there is a way to determine if his engine is a weaker b18c like 1 0r 2.

thats a b18c1

this is a b18c2

No the one he posted is just B18C, which is the same stamp you'll see on any JDM SiR/Type R. So it could well be a Type R. Japan motors don't have numbers at the end of the engine code. Whenever a number appears at the end, its either USDM/AUDM/EUDM.

yeh well the engine does say b18c and not b18c2 but probably the b16 wasnt stok or the engine you friend got  is at the end of its lifespan or pistons on dem dying bed could be alot of things but naturally the b18 is supposed to be faster
